Spreading the Holiday Cheer

I love my group of first grade students! I know that Thanksgiving has already passed for this year, but their turkey writing was too cute to not share with you. Such creative little minds! This was a writing lesson that I had the students do. After reading a story to the class about a freindly little turkey that did not want to be eaten for a Thanksgiving meal, I had the students pretend that they were turkeys and they had to write why I should not eat them for Thanksgiving dinner. Here are a few of their stories.....

Hi, my name is Zack. You should not eat me for Thanksgiving dinner because I am too sweet. You don't want to eat me. I will make you too wild and crazy. Your teeth will rot out. Do not ever eat a sweet turkey again! By: Katie

Hi, my name is Plump. You should not eat me for Thanksgiving dinner because I am too juicy. If you eat me the juice will make you messy. Then you will have to change your clothes. Eat fruit instead. Fruit is good for you and not messy. Please don't pick me again! By: Allen

Hi, my name is Alexa. You should not eat me for Thanksgiving dinner becasue I am too cute. Eat a snake or something else. Don't eat me because I am a little cute turkey. I will call the turkey police! I am the littlest turkey in the barn. So please don't eat me! The other turkeys would be sad. By: Elise

Hi, my name is Marisa. You should not eat me for Thanksgiving dinner because I cough and scream and yell. I will run away! I will chase you and peck you on the head. I will call the turkey police. I am also too small. I would not have enough meat on me. Please eat something else! By: Marisa

Prada

She is a handful…in every sense of the word. It definitely takes two hands to carry her. It also takes two hands, legs, feet, and/or full body to push her off your face in the wee hours of the morning. I swear she has an internal alarm clock that goes off every morning around 4 a.m. No matter how much I want to snuggle with her when I go to bed, she always ignores me and snootily plops herself as far from me as possible. However, at 4 am, right around the time I am dreaming about prince charming and winning the lottery, I find my air supply suddenly being cut off. Either that or my pillow is getting fluffed. It takes her an hour to find just the right angle to settle in on my pillow and if she can’t find a comfy spot there she then climbs onto my chest and snuggles in the crook of my neck. It is during this time that I sleepily shove her over the side of the bed! Once I finally fall back into a relatively relaxing sleep I am once again awoken by loud “meow, meow, meow, meow’s” and open my eyes to see her big cat eyes staring into mine. Well screw it now! I may as well get up and feed the pain in my arse since I have to be up in ½ an hour anyway.

It may seem like I don’t love her, but the opposite is true. I knew from the moment that they set her down in the “meeting room” that I would be taking her home. She was visibly overweight and an older/oldest cat at the Humane Society that day, but she immediately jumped up on the ledge and arched her body against my arm and torso and began to purr. She found her home. She is a bit of a queen and expects things to go as she wants them…hence the name Prada. She has a snooty air about her while still being able to melt people’s hearts with her slow waddle and talent for fitting her girth perfectly in your lap. What else can I say, I love the little fatty!

Roommates

We pretend that we get along. We can actually do it pretty well. Let me tell you what I know about them. The one in the teal blue shirt with the red hooker shoes thinks that she has some kind of skills on the dance floor. She is constantly busting out her moves, mostly in the kitchen where there is wide open space. She calls them things like “pop and lock” or ballet with “attitude” or “arabesque.” What? Frickin’ A, just get out of me and my sandwiches way! Oh yah and she thinks she knows how to make pastry type “stuff.” Caramel (pronounced: care uh mel) de leche’ bon-bons and four tiered cakes (with raspberry filling!). Yah -snort- like…who can’t do that?

The other one, with the creamy yellowish colored shirt….she seems to think that she is a cougar. Ha! Whatever does that mean? Just because she has no waist and, how shall I say it, a lovely upper body, this does not automatically make her a cougar. I think what they really want are good teeth. Oh…wait. She does have NICE teeth! She also seems to think that she knows her way around the kitchen. She can whip out a nine course meal with a package of ramen noodles, and a can of beans. Yah -snort- like….who can’t do that?

The girl in the middle, that’s me. I just sit on the couch and eat their gross food and watch re-runs of Dancing with the Stars and Next Top Model. Ahhh, I love having roommates. They keep life so interesting!

Fantasy, Surrealist, or Symbolic Art

Ava Showing Off the "Art"
I'm a little scarecrow,
Raggedy and worn.
I wear a hat, And a shirt that's torn.
When the crows come,
I wave and shout,
"Away from my garden ----
Get on out!"
***********************************************************
(You can sing this song to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot!)
***********************************************************
I love spending time with my beautiful nieces! On this particular evening, I decided that Ava and I should make something fun out of construction paper. Since it is the season of Autumn, what better than scarecrows? I had so much fun and got a kick out of watching Ava construct and create her very own! I love her wobbly name written on his sleeve, her uneven cuts, and her lopsided arms! This piece of art is truly a gem!

Happy Autumn my friends, Happy Autumn!

LIFE

Here is an example of what Miss Delicious makes on a daily basis. Yum!
________________________________________________________
What…Who’s there? Hello……??

Wait, I think I got it! Let me brush away the cobwebs from the screen.

Oh, there you are! Still patiently waiting I see.

I am so sorry for skipping out on all of you for so long. Let’s see, what have you missed?

Well, it has been over two months. Much has happened. I have begun student teaching, moved into a new place, bought a nine year old cat, and still been dating unsuccessfully. I am sure the latter is my entire fault, as I tend to be a bit picky. I’m sorry, but if he has bad shoes it is all over for me. Okay, so I am not quite that picky….but I have had to work on that. I don’t delude myself into thinking that I am some spring chicken, and believe me, I am not all diamonds and pearls either! Let’s just say that I know what I want and what I don’t want!

So, I have moved. Yep, you read that right. Within a 3 year period I have moved four times. Cute little apartment to brother number 1 and his family, brother 1’s family to brother number 2 and his (expanding) family, brother 2 to brother number 3 and his family, to my final resting place from brother 3 to a house with two roommates! Whew…I am tired just writing about it. I do have to say, I am loving my new arrangement with my two new roomies. What stunning and refreshing young women I live with. Did I mention that they are chefs? No? Well, they are. One of them does pastry and we call her Miss Delicious, because everything she bakes is DELICIOUS! My other roommate cooks “real” food, and she loves meat! And let me tell you…she can cook it! No vegetarians in my house! Boy oh boy, did I hit the jackpot! Now I can have our family Thanksgiving or Christmas, because our house is certainly large enough to fit everyone and I have two wonderful friends who can cook the meals!

Miss Prada, ah yes…my cute, sweet, cuddly and old housecat. I couldn’t love her more! I fell in love the instant I saw her lounging lazily in her glass home at the humane society. She barely fit, and she had these eyes that seemed to sparkle! We met one another and instantly hit it off; she also wooed one of my roommates who said I couldn’t leave without her! It didn’t matter that she was old and slow and overweight. Her sweet nature, along with her love bites won us over. We brought her home and continue to spoil her daily!

And now….to the most important part of the past few months; my student teaching experience. The months of worry and stress that I went through about this part of my education has been such a great waste of time. From the moment I stepped into the classroom and struck up a relationship with my cooperating teacher and our students, my life was forever changed! There is no better preparation for teaching than actually teaching! I can undoubtedly say that I have the best to learn from. I have no doubts that this was what I was meant to do, and that I have a natural talent for creating a positive environment and relationships with children. I also know that I would not feel so ready to have my own classroom if it were not for the outstanding role model that I have found in my cooperating teacher. What a dynamic person to watch and learn from! Her positive attitude and constructive criticism have done wonders in helping me to gain the confidence that I need to truly make a difference and become a great teacher.

Okay…so I am done catching you up! I promise, my next blog will be about the crazy antics of my students, and believe me…you don’t want to miss those!

I Need an Interpreter

So…I have been dabbling in the on-line dating “stuff.” After meeting a complete jackball for the first time, I put myself back out there and began talking to several other young, single, men. There was one in particular that I struck up an on-line relationship with, which soon turned into phone calls and several meetings. He was quite handsome, funny, and a little too smooth. Although we had fun together on the occasions that we met, I think we both felt that there wasn’t much there. It probably means something that I would have rather been drying my hair than feeling like I should go out with him again. Right? Anyway, that so-called relationship has passed.

I got right back out there. I emailed a gentleman to say a quick hi and let him know, basically, that I am interested. This was his reply:

“Thanks for taking the time to tell me about yourself. You seem like a great catch! I believe I have finally found some one here worth getting to know! So I wish you luck here, I am flattered!”

I am not quite sure how I should take this. Is he saying that he has already found someone that he feels is worth getting to know….or is he saying that he would like to get to know me? He is also wishing me luck. Usually that means that even though he is flattered and he thinks that I am great and all, he still wishes me luck on my endeavor to find a great match.

What the hell. Am I losing my mind?

Oh Damn-Age!

House-sitting, or rather, animal-sitting gives me a chance to get out of one siblings hair while helping out another. I have to say, it is quite enjoyable having a space all to myself again…I can leave the bathroom door open while I potty or shower, I can sing as loudly as I want without causing pain to others, I can inappropriately scratch or adjust my bra without fear of offending others; but mostly, I have the luxury of blessed silence if I so choose! I read two novels during my three day stay at the house. During one of my quiet evenings, I was laying happily on the couch engrossed in my novel, the dog Maddie laying in her bed beside me, the cat Jack curled up contentedly at my feet. I had the news on T.V. as I knew that storms were supposed to be in the area. No major storms were hitting at the moment, no sirens blowing.

As I lay there, I noticed that it began to get a bit windy. Within minutes, or so it seemed, it sounded as if the roof were going to blow off the house. I gathered up the animals and raced to the basement….I just knew that there was a tornado hitting! I have never been so freaking scared in my life. There I was on the couch in the basement, huddled with Maddie under a blanket and cushions listening to the storm. The sound only lasted minutes. I unraveled myself from the couch and headed upstairs. The roof still seemed to be on…that’s a good sign! I went to the front door and looked outside and I was greeted with an unbelievable sight. Although everyone was safe, and minimal damage happened to the neighboring homes, it was sad to see so many old trees toppled and destroyed.

Mother Nature is amazing!

Twinkle Toes

Does anyone ever walk into the shoe department of a store and swear that they hear angels singing? No? Well, I do. It doesn’t even have to be a shoe department, it could be one of those silly little things in the middle of the mall labeled “Flip Flop Mania” and I would still feel a magnetic pull. It is a strange sickness that I have; this need to stop and try on shoes and the fact that I will most likely end up buying a pair. It could be anything from a pair of red stilettos (hey, a girl has to ring in her 30th birthday with a bang…and what says it better than red CFM shoes) to a pair of black, no heel, mary janes. I would rather spend my last dollar on a pair of great shoes than to use it on something that is actually needed like, let’s say, hygiene products. My thought is, “hey they aren’t looking at my greasy rats nest of a hairdo, because all they are looking at are my sexy shoes!” “Yah…you know you want me.”

Anyway, I was out on the town this past weekend and one of my girlfriends had on a pair of shoes that were similar in color to the ones I was wearing. You might call it pewter. This friend o’ mine has an even worse shoe fetish than I. She usually goes for the shiny eye popping baubles that come attached to the shoes along with bold and magnifying colors. However, on this night it was subdued, shiny, but subdued! So…I had to snap up a picture of me and my shoe lovin’ pal in our sexy sling backs. Enjoy, and drool all you want!

Lazy Afternoons

I am not normally someone who is struck by the beauty of a cloud spotted sky, but on this particular day I was. I was driving down a pretty quiet road in a part of Omaha that is not quite developed yet, when I had this sense of complete calm. It was strange, and it only lasted a moment, but I quickly dug out my camera from my purse and took a couple of snapshots as I was driving. I wanted so badly to preserve the feeling. I wish I took the time to really enjoy the peaceful and clear glimpses of pure delight that we are given in nature, but instead; I am too busy getting somewhere for an appointment, on my cell phone chattering about the latest gossip, catching up on last minute homework, doing laundry, cleaning the house, or whatever it is that always seems to take precedence. I don’t remember where I was driving on this day, but I wish that I would have spent it as a lazy afternoon under these big, white, puffy clouds. Maybe next time!

Freakity Freaky!

OMG...Sometimes the complete and total correctness of what is written in the stars boggles my mind! I was doing a little research on my astrological sign when I came across "Libra--Karmic Life Lesson." This peaked my interest as I completely and truly believe in Karma and the saying "what goes around comes around." I have to say...I am a little freaked out about how on the money this projection is! If you didn't know me, this would explain it all:

Ruled by lovely Venus, Libra is all about sweetness and romance, art and beauty, balance and charm. As the Sign of the Scales, one of Libra's great concerns is justice and equality, but this Sign may be even more concerned with partnerships. Friendships and romance feed Libra's soul; a social butterfly (and always a delightful host), Libra hardly ever finds itself without a lover. Those born under its influence truly prefer togetherness to being alone and tend to feel distinctly uncomfortable when single. They even have a hard time when they simply find themselves on their own for an evening without companionship. This marks Libra's greatest Karmic task: To stop looking to others to fill the perceived empty parts of the soul. Librans truly believe they're better off with others' constant support and companionship, and in many ways they're right: Team efforts can often get much more done than an individual, and an evening out with friends can be more fun than spending it home alone. It's the driving need for support and reassurance behind the urge for companionship, however, that is Libra's puzzle to solve.

Librans simply haven't learned -- or don't trust -- that their souls are complete as is. They don't need to rely on others for support; they have themselves. However, they often don't realize this and instead commit lots of energy to seeking and securing others' approval. The trouble is, seeking approval can actually be considered a procrastination device. It can certainly inhibit progress if the approval sought isn't found. As a Cardinal Sign, Libra has lots of energy to start new projects and get things going, but its commitment not to proceed until everyone is working together smoothly is unrealistic and may be the very thing that stops the project completely. Libra needs to realize that not everyone can, will or even should get along all the time; when dissenting opinions make tempers flare, Libra would do well to push ahead, even if that has to happen alone.

Differences of opinion and arguments can be very difficult for diplomatic Libra to handle. When disagreements occur, Librans tend to react in several different ways: They might become indecisive, refusing to take a stand as that would be akin to taking sides. Alternatively, some Librans will use their natural charisma to try to charm others into "good behavior." This is fine -- to a point. Sometimes Librans take their yen for harmony so far they're willing to lie or manipulate just to keep things running smoothly. In the end, of course, this kind of behavior rarely pays off; in fact, it may only further upset that balance that Libra is trying so hard to find. But why place so much important on balance in the first place? It's impossible to make everyone happy and one could use up a lot of energy trying, and all in vain.

Libra must learn that keeping everyone happy isn't the most important thing in life. Furthermore, others' approval is fickle and not to be counted on; Libra would do well to realize that when getting too caught up in wanting to be liked by all. Libra can learn from Aries's brash approach to life about placing less importance on outside opinion. Libra can look to emotional Cancer to learn how to confront feelings, even when they're frightening or uncomfortable. And Capricorn can teach Libra the importance and success of hard work done solo, carried over the long-term.

Holy cow! Check out your own Karmic Life Lessons at: http://karma.astrology.com/ It is very fun and a little disturbing!

Hooked

So, I came across this article today that read, "What keeps a guy hooked on you for life? Guys share nine things that make a man all yours forever -- no doubts, no straying, no pulling a Spitzer."

1. Her Drive
2. The Look
3. Our Conversation
4. Her Libido
5. The fact that we'll never be together -
(apparently being married hooks some guys...I don'tget it)
6. Her Hips
7. How she sighs in bed
8. Silence -
(as in, she does not need to fill in the silence with useless chatter at all moments of the day)
9. Her Cooking

Okay...can I just say that this list sucks. Seriously!

Fifty Three Years of Wedded Bliss…or Something Like That

One of my favorite stories about my parents was how they met. My dad had just returned from serving his country during the Korean War in July of 1954. Grandma Zach made mention that my aunt Hilde had some nice looking sisters. This was her simple way of saying that she thought her youngest son should meet them. My dad went to a dance at King’s ballroom in Norfolk, Nebraska on August 24th, 1954 where his life was forever changed. At some point during their dating, grandma decided to mention that Adela wasn’t the one she had in mind! Regardless of that fact, my mother received a ring on Christmas day only four months after she had met dad. Five months later on May 24th of 1955 they were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Osmond Nebraska.

They left on their honeymoon to Chicago, visiting dad’s sister Agnes and her husband Jim. During this trip the above picture was taken. Mom in her saddle shoes and all! It is crazy how much dad has remained the same. A little more meat on his bones, some gray hair, and a few wrinkles, but he still has that same funny “swoop” in his hair, that great big smile, and the twinkle in his eyes! Although mom may have gotten married as a sweet and gentle girl at the age of twenty; she turned into a strong, willful, and independent woman. To put it mildly, she is a force to be reckoned with!

Almost a year to the day later they had their first child, a son they named Benedict, on May 25th, 1956. Up until the year of 1977, they would have twelve more children….eight boys and four girls. I know that I see things differently than how my older siblings remember their childhood, but I know that each one of us would say that we have been blessed. I am constantly amazed to think about the many sacrifices that our parents made and would continue to make for their children. The list would be un-ending and I could not begin to do justice in explaining this list in a way that they deserve. So…I just wanted to post a little something as a show of gratitude to a couple of remarkable people that I call mom and dad!

Happy Belated Anniversary!

Is she Sporting a Halo?

So, I decided to change the title of my blog. The original one was true but not all that fitting for my personality. It was also something that I came up with on a whim so that I could join the blogging world. After receiving an email from a very sweet acquaintance turned friend today, I had something to ponder. In the email she stated, “I just thought it was sweet and cute to find someone so wholesome.......I love that you blush at talking about vibrators.” Over and over again I hear how sweet, wholesome, pure, moral, blah, blah, and blah, I am. I will admit that the small town environment that I grew up in along with the lack of important discussions that one would hope to have with their parents did not prepare me for the big bad world I was about to discover. I feel indebted to my parents, family, friends and community in which I grew up. Although we did not discuss sex, drugs, partying, and countless other taboo issues, they did prepare me to make good decisions. They taught me the difference between right and wrong, the significance of the all important golden rule, and respect.

I don’t deny that I am the all American “good girl,” but I can cuss better than any sailor, say hurtful things that I don’t mean when I am angry, miss mass more than occasionally, and gossip with the best of you. Do I blush when talking about vibrators? Sure. I blush when I am introduced to a cute boy, or learning about the term “camel toe.” I don’t know why I am this way, especially since I grew up around eight rambunctious boys and three older sisters. The fact remains that I am. Heck, what can I say, I was sheltered. I just learned what a roofie was. I am 30! So…for all you people out there who truly can’t or don’t believe that there are still people out there who have not been corrupted by today’s society; well, you can kiss my ass!

That’s what Families are for

Wasn’t it just yesterday that I was changing their diapers, feeding them mashed peas, and rocking them to sleep? I am not so sure where the time has gone, but I know this; my nieces have been growing into beautiful young adults! I feel assured that they still consider me cool enough to want to hang out with. I also know that my status as one of their fun aunts takes second place to their peers and the social life that accompanies it. I am not saddened by this fact so much as I am mindful of what it was like for me during their same age. I dare not think about that, as it is sure to cause me some gray hairs! I find it quite entertaining to listen to the conversational rapport between these girls during the opportunities where we find ourselves together. As is normal, talk most often revolves around boys. Once that becomes mundane, schemes are often thought up on how to pull one over on someone special! No longer are they continuously asking me “Wwhy are you drying your hair? Why don’t you want it wet? Why don’t you want to get sick?” type questions, they are instead asking me questions like “Have you ever tried smoking? How old were you? Where were you at? Did it make you sick?” Gone are the literal minds of their youth, and in its place are the questioning thoughts of self discovery. They may choose to hobnob with others, but when they are hurt, when they want to talk, when they want to celebrate, when they want to gloat, when they want to cry, or when they just want someone who they know cares about them…they will always have me. They will always have this family.

The Faceless Man

I had a dream last night that I have dreamt before...or at least some version of it. It's my wedding day. Something is terribly wrong with my dress. I can't seem to get into it as I am moving in slow motion. The church is packed (it is always the same church - the one that I grew up with) and the music has begun. I am suddenly standing at the beginning of the incredibly long aisle still fixing my dress, which is not completely finished. As I begin my descent down the aisle my significant other is waiting. He is always someone that I know and am familiar with, but when I finally reach him he is faceless.

Here are a few definitions that I found on the new age dream dictionary online:

invisible person - Person: Can be presence of one's Higher Self lending strength and comfort. Power: Something in your life that you haven't been able to rationalize.

wedding - A desire fulfilled if there is no ready mate. Preparing your mind set for the future. Prior to actual wedding: To be expected

I am not sure why I have more dreams about getting married to a faceless man than about being pregnant, because I would much rather be a mommy to a handful of children than be a wife! That is a desire I have always had! Will that dream ever come true?

Do I know a Kenny Zach?

Should I be worried that every introduction made at the school in which I will be student teaching at always ends with
"....and she is Kenny Zach's little sister!" This is always followed by "I'm so sorry."

A Match He Was Not...

So, my first experience in meeting a potential match left me less than enthused. After two months of email, texting, and phone conversation we met for the very first time. This is what happened...

Bar Scene:
He is sitting at a table with a few of his buddies and a couple of girls. In walks me and my girlfriend. As I walk past his table I wave and say hello. He nods his head. Me and my friend walk to another table sit down and order a couple of drinks. He and his buddies get up and leave the bar.

Text sent out from my phone by my friend to him:
"Look here u insensitive bastard, how dare you ignore me and act like I didn't exist. To say hello to another person makes u kind and human, to say nothing at all makes u a (insert your own choice words here). U r definately the lowest piece of dung a person could ever have in thier lives. Have a nice night and rot in hell."

Text from him to reply back to me from the above text:
"Ouch, i actually waved and said hi when u walked in. Have a good night."

The Battle of the Boob Tube

So, I was going through some papers the other night from some classes this past semester. I ran across one in particular from my teaching reading and language arts class. I remember this assignment quite well. Our teacher gave us a writing prompt before we ended class and told us that our next assignment would be a journal about a vivid memory that we had from our childhood. I still laugh when I think of this particular memory! Mary, just know that I got an A+ on this assignment and had the instructor rolling out of her seat!

So, here is it is:

“The Battle of the Boob Tube”
By Margaret Zach

In order to get the most out of my story, I need to give you a little background on the people who were involved. It all started some odd years ago…17 to be exact. I was about 14 years old and in the 7th grade at a small town catholic school. My favorite teacher was Mrs. Randall, she taught all my English and literature classes. Her husband, Lyle, just so happened to work at the local Farmers Co-op along with my dad. I have a sister, several actually, but one that this particular incident involved. Her name is Mary, but from now on I will be referring to her as “the lunatic.”
The day started out just the same as any other Saturday. I got up, polished off my usual bowl of puffed oat cereal topped with a cup of sugar and I proceeded into our grand living room. Quite to my surprise, I found that I was the first one to get dibs on that great heaping monstrosity nestled in the corner of our faux wood, brown paneled walls. I could almost see the glow surrounding it, as if to say, “Turn me on, watch whatever you want!” I didn’t hesitate. There was still plenty of time to watch Saved by the Bell before I was booted out! I turned on the boob tube and roamed through the channels until I found what I wanted. I was quite content, sitting all cozily in my dad’s big comfy chair watching (what I can’t actually remember) an episode about why it took Zach so long to ask Kelly to their high school dance. As I was engrossed in this nail biting dilemma unfolding in front of me, queenie enters the room, or rather, “the lunatic.”
Normally, I give up my right freely, to let the others in the family boss me around. I am the baby and those are the rules, or so I have been told. The lunatic wanders casually over to the boob tube and, without another thought for how I might feel, turns the channel. It was probably something like MTV, which our dad constantly said “that trash you’re watching will be the demise of the world as we know it!” I like to think that I was a daddy’s girl and, well, you know; I didn’t want to let him down. Something came over me and I decided that I would stand up for my rights as an individual in our home. We were all born equal, right? So, I aloofly walked back up to the boob tube (we did not have that little piece of heaven called a remote control) and changed the channel back to what I wanted. It was more to prove a point than anything. This was about the time “the lunatic” yelled, “MARGARET, turn it back or I will pound you into the ground!” It was something like that anyway. I sweetly and innocently turned to her and politely said, “No thank you sweet sister.” Apparently she did not hear my courteous answer. This was about the time that the battle of the boob tube broke turf.
Suddenly, the crazed lunatic bounded towards me and pushed me on her way to turn the channel back to MTV, which I knew was the spawn of Satan, because I heard dad say that it was. I couldn’t let her do it, so I pushed back. At this point things go a little grey. All I remember is the screaming, hair pulling, eye poking, and spleen kicking battle that ensued. Not once did any of my brothers (oh yah…did I mention that, I also have eight brothers) come to my rescue. I am not sure where they were all at, but a few of them were eating breakfast and couldn’t have possibly ignored the fact that the front room sounded as if a hurricane were plowing through, along with the fact that our kitchen and living room was one big “great room.” Anyway, as I was saying, things were a little grey here. The lunatic said that when I decided to spit on her and blow my boogers on her that is what sent her into a wild fury. I can’t imagine that I, the sweet and innocent baby of the family who would never hurt a fly, would even consider doing something as disgusting as that. But, that is how the lunatic saw it.
It must have been around this time in mid-lugie, and several fistfuls of hair later that we each heard it. Suddenly, you could have heard a pin drop as every thing seemed to freeze in motion, even the boys were in mid-chomp as, again, the noise occurred. It could not possibly be! Someone was knocking on our front door. The same door that opens into the living room, right where the battle of the boob tube had been taking place! We were like two deer caught in the headlights. The lunatic and I couldn’t run fast enough. Suddenly, we were glued together at the hips, peeking around our dining room wall at the door, willing whoever it was to just go away. They wouldn’t stop knocking! The boys had long since high-tailed it out of the kitchen to return to their hiding hole. The lunatic and I were left with no choice.
As we were quietly pushing each other to go answer the door, it occurred to each of us that this predicament was quite funny. It must have been our embarrassment and the shame, but we began to have fits of laughter that would not stop. After seeing that she would not be the one to answer the door, I finally got up the nerve to do it. Still laughing, tears streaming down my face, flaming cheeks and all, I did it. I answered the door. I couldn’t have been more mortified. It was Lyle. You know…the guy that works with my dad and who is married to my all time favorite teacher – Mrs. Randall!
Not only was it Lyle, but he just so happened to have his 8 year old son and 6 year old daughter with him. Needless to say, he had a goofy lopsided grin and had only this to say, “Should I come back at another time? Perhaps after you are done killing each other?” I will end my story here as it is a whole other story about how my father reacted and the consequences to the lunatic and my actions.

Dinner and Drinks

So, I was getting a bit nostalgic for an old college friend after having a less than splendid evening with a potential "match." Yah...a match he was not! That is for another posting. Anyway, I shot off an email to the Z man stating, mushily, how much I miss making those 1a.m. phone calls to vent. Apparently I conveyed my piteous needs as it took only minutes for a return email for an offer of dinner and drinks. Much to my delight, I jumped on the offer as I am a poor college student and a free meal is like a door opening to heaven! Okay, so that is not entirely true. In reality, any opportunity that I am able to spend with my old friend is one that I take when it is presented. How did Zach and I meet you ask? Well, during my first stint in college, oh...about eleven years ago, I was introduced to Zach through a highschool friend at a party. He had dashing good looks, a way with the ladies, and a personality that was lacking nothing! We immediately hit it off after finding out that my Grandpa Krienert was from the same small town in which Zach grew up in. As if that was not enough, I came to find out that my very own mother actually babysat Zachs mother on a few different occasions. What a small world! From here, Zach and I became bosom buddies and rarely went a day without talking to one another at least two or three times a day! Dinner, movies, parties, 3a.m. phone calls, a last minute date for something important, and road trips were not unordinary. He soon became a part of my family. As it goes with getting older, the demands of life take over and relationships evolve. Although we are lucky to see each other a few times a year and only have an occasional phone call, his friendship is still as significant to me today as it was in the beginning! Everyone should be so lucky!

This is Where Boredom Got Me!

Sitting behind a desk for five hours with little to nothing to do has gotten me to thinking. I thought, "Why not join other blogging creatures that seem to be lurking around every website whenever I turn on the computer?" So, here I am at 7:15 p.m. on a Wednesday night, with less than an hour left of work, entering into something that I am sure will cause me more gray hairs rather then relieve them! I have been told that blogging is a lot like journaling. Apparently it helps to ease the mind and free the soul, and so and so on... It is my hopes that my future blogs will include my daily experiences in the classroom, my clumsy and less than stellar dating life, and a true picture of what it is and has been like to be me. Cheers then, for surrendering my first light load!
